Aaron Losey – Supervisor of Behavioral Services

Children’s behaviors can at times interfere with their academic achievement. Rather than allow those behaviors to detract from children’s learning, our team provides regular opportunities for children to learn from these experiences. Our behavioral aides use Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methodologies in all the specialized classrooms. Through strength-based behavioral management, our classroom creates an environment that accommodates to the needs of all students. Challenging behaviors often decrease when instructors and parents provide consistent expectations and reinforcement. We offer regular support to the family to help them better understand the child’s behavior, and how to respond to it supportively and consistently.

Our behavioral specialists evaluate, design, and implement environmental modifications to empower children to strengthen their skills. Through our evaluation we help to identify how the relationships between behavior and environments can benefit the child and family. We also provide direct observation and measurement of behavior and how certain behaviors can be influenced by the environment. At Carousel, each child is surrounded by positive reinforcement that integrates multi-tiered reward structures to produce practical behavior change. Using ABA, our school reduces problem behaviors and increases functional replacement behaviors by tailoring interventions to individual learners.

Our approach at Carousel addresses children's behaviors and re-shapes cognitive and sensory interventions to best facilitate their development. Behavioral aides shadow the teacher throughout the day to help the child better connect and succeed in the class. Our behavioral team reviews the precipitants and consequences of each child’s behaviors, compares these findings to the treatment plan, and makes improvements to the child’s plan as necessary.
