Early Intervention Program

Gina Prato, OTR/L – Program Director

Children up through 3 years old who have a diagnosis, or who are at risk of developmental delays may receive specialized programming. Through Carousel’s unique Early Intervention Program, children with special needs may participate in an integrated half day preschool program with typically developing peers, while also receiving the additional therapeutic support services they need. Since learning and development is most rapid during the preschool years, it is critical to provide early identification and intervention for children. The timing of early intervention is an important key that can optimize the child’s ability to meet their developmental milestones appropriately.

Admission

Children ages birth through 3 years old, who have been identified by the Regional Center as either “at risk” due to developmental delays or developmentally disabled, may be considered for admission to the program.

Program Description

The Early Intervention Program is a bilingual full inclusion therapeutic infant development program. The instructional staff to client ratio of at least 1:3, incorporates direct services from occupational and physical therapists, speech and language pathologists, and behavioral specialists in the classroom. Through the transdisciplinary team approach, these clinicians provide comprehensive assessments and develop treatment plans for each child. Children may receive any separately authorized individual treatments in addition to the standard Early Intervention Program time.

How does the Early Intervention Program benefit children and families?
  • Opportunities for children to improve development skills
  • Support and education for the family
  • Typical peer models create a natural and safe environment to learn
