Certification
Carousel is certified by the California State Department of Education and meets or exceeds all state program requirements. Carousel is open year round offering an After School Socialization Program during the summer winter and spring breaks. Saturday Camp is also available at certain locations.

Admissions
Applications are accepted throughout the school year.

Transportation
Carousel is conveniently located in the Los Angeles Airport Area. Door-to-door transportation is available to students in the greater Los Angeles area and neighboring communities including the South Bay Area and North to Malibu.

DIS Services
Carousel offers Speech & Language, Occupational and Physical Therapy, a Modified Adaptive PE Program and Behavior Intervention. Our therapy services provide personalized programs tailored to meet each individual child's needs.

Program Staff
The staff at Carousel are appropriately credentialed and certified for instruction and all staff is trained in prevention activities to support student success.

Program Description
It is our goal to provide a nurturing environment for the child's social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. Carousel offers a balanced integrated program that allows the child to deal with his/her expanding world on the child's own level and the child's own pace. The program is designed to prepare developmentally delayed/disabled children for entrance into the public school system. The program's philosophy regarding mainstreaming is consistent with the regulations of Part H and Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, PL 101-476) and California Department of Education.

Children are encouraged to make choices about materials and activities throughout the day. As they pursue their choices and plans, children explore, ask and answer questions, solve problems and interact with classmates and adults. In this kind of environment children naturally engage in key experiences, activities that foster developmentally important skills and abilities. Teachers approach children by emphasizing the broad cognitive, social and physical abilities that are important for all children rather than by focusing on the child's deficits and identify where the child is developmentally, and then provide a rich range of experiences that would be appropriate for a normally developing child at the level. For example, we would encourage a 4 year old who is functioning at a 2 year old's level to express his plans by pointing, gesturing and saying single words and they would immerse the child in a conversational environment that provides many natural opportunities for using and hearing language.

Curriculum
Carousel School offers a comprehensive educational program and services for children and their families challenged by a wide range of learning, developmental and emotional disabilities. Age range is Preschool thru 8th grade. An innovative and integrated curriculum and high teacher to student ratio enables students to experience success. Based on each student's IEP, an individual instructional plan is designed to maximize his/her learning. Case management is an integral part of our service and emphasizes coordination with other professionals working on behalf of a particular child or family. Our teachers recognize and appreciate the uniqueness in every student, and encourage children to develop their interests and talents. Through small group interaction and individual attention, each child's day is filled with learning opportunities that are interactive and stimulating. A child's self-worth flourishes and creativity blossoms when he or she feels that his or her intellectual and emotional experiences are valued. Our interdisciplinary curriculum is enhanced by special facilities and diverse teaching methods to ensure continuity in the subject areas of art, computer, music, physical education and science.
